Ask what help means today.
Support can be a ride, a meal, a changed plan, quiet company, a practical errand or simply believing the answer. Avoid assuming that yesterday's help fits today.
Relationships & Support
Build a support circle, set boundaries and use clear language for cancellations, changing plans and private information.
Support is a system
One person does not need to be your driver, listener, backup planner and crisis contact. Clear roles can reduce confusion for everyone.
Short scripts
Choose language that fits the relationship and the amount of detail you want to share.
“I need to change plans today. I am disappointed too, but I do not have the capacity to make it work. Can we reconnect about another day?”
“I care about this and I am not disappearing. I need to pause, then I will check back by [day/time] when I can give you a realistic answer.”
“I appreciate you asking. I am keeping the medical details private, but I can tell you what kind of support would help.”
“Please ask before sharing information about my health or plans with anyone else—even if the intention is to help.”
Support can be a ride, a meal, a changed plan, quiet company, a practical errand or simply believing the answer. Avoid assuming that yesterday's help fits today.
It is reasonable to change what you share, what you need and who receives updates. A boundary is information about how to support the relationship.
